An environmental permit was admitted to Metsä Fibre’s new bioproduct mill

The Regional State Administrative Agency of Northern Finland has just admitted an environmental permit to Metsä Fibre’s new bioproduct mill in Kemi. According to the permit, Metsä Fibre is allowed to begin operating regardless of possible appeals of the permit.

The planned bioproduct mill investment is worth of 1,5 billion euros and it is expected that Metsä Fibre will make the final decision of investment in following weeks.

Construction of the new mill has been planned for quite some time now and the preparations for the new mill have proceeded as planned. Also, Port of Kemi Ltd. has prepared for the investment on its own part, preparations at the port are ready and waiting for the final decision of investment. – Port of Kemi is keeping its thumbs up and waiting for a positive final decision of investment. We are ready to start the project for the port’s part as soon as the final decision of investment is made, says Jari Heikkilä, Port of Kemi’s technical manager and project manager of this bioproduct mill project.
