Certified management system
The operations of Port of Kemi are based on a certified management system. Environmental management system standard ISO 14001, occupational health and safety management system standard ISO 45001 and quality management system standard ISO 9001 guide Port of Kemi and its interest groups to continuously improve the level of operations, quality, safety and environmental protection. The management system also corresponds to the requirements of the operational level set by Port of Kemi and its interest groups. The environmental permit and standards applied ensure that the quality and environmental goals, as well as the occupational health and safety goals of Port of Kemi’s and it’s operations are achieved and continuously developed.
Environment as a part of the operations
Port of Kemi is located at the back end of the Gulf of Bothnia, at the river delta of Finland’s largest river Kemijoki. The changing scenery due to upthrust, the low salinity of the sea water and the vulnerability of the Northern nature create an unique operating environment of which also Port of Kemi wants to preserve.
Port of Kemi aims to take notice of the well-being of the environment and to support sustainable development in all of its actions. In practice, this means that the environmental requirements are taken into account in all of the port operations and that energy is consumed adequately and efficiently. Also the collection, sorting and recycling of waste of the vessels and port operations is a part of the process of taking care of the environment.
