Port of Ajos is located approximately 10 km southwest from the city of Kemi in an island called Ajos, and approximately 39 km from the Kemi lighthouse. The port is a part of the Ajos neighborhood of Kemi, and the Stora Enso Veitsiluoto paper mill is located close to it.
Port of Ajos has four piers and a total of 11 berths. The piers are equipped with two rear gate berths, storo- and storo side loader berths as well as ro-ro and double-deck ramps. At the port, there is also 9 ha. of storage space and several warehouses as well as 45 ha. of storage fields, most of which paved. The area also includes a free warehouse as well as storage areas for temperature-controlled containers and hazardous materials. Port of Ajos is enclosed and controlled in accordance with the ISPS regulations.
Liner traffic to Europe operating three times a week and the ocean liner to North America operating once in every three weeks provide a good frequency for shipping goods. Port of Ajos also has a direct rail connection to the government’s main rail of Kemi, the port rail extends all the way to the pier area. Road connections are excellent as well; Ajos has a straight and easy connection to the main road E75.
Close to the Ajos piers is located Port House from where the main office of Port of Kemi is located. Also the Seamen’s Mission and offices of Baltic Bulk and Kemi Shipping are located on the port area, as well as the offices of i.a. Arctia Karhu, Chemec and Havator.
