Harbour icebreaker-tug Jääsalo turns 50

Hard worker, harbour icebreaker-tug Jääsalo had her 50th birthday on Wednesday the 12.11.2025.

Owned by Port Of Kemi Ltd. and manned by Boluda Towage Kemi Ltd., the 32 meters long vessel with width of 9 meters was build in Åmal Shipyard in Sweden. The vessel was named after Mr. Helge Jääsalo, the general manager of the Maritime Administration of that time. While working as the general manager, Mr. Jääsalo promoted winter navigation, especially at the Bothnia Bay area.

Once build, the harbour icebreaker-tug Jääsalo was powerful and modern vessel which even today operates fully in assisting vessels into harbours of Kemi and Röyttä, Tornio as well as taking care the ice-breaking of the harbours.

The birthday of Jääsalo was celebrated small-scaled at the Seamen’s mission in Kemi with former and current crew members of Jääsalo as well as personnel from Port Of Kemi Ltd. and Boluda Towage Kemi Ltd.
